Whether celebrating Portugal, their papas, or both, 5,259 runners had reason to be proud at the Portugal Day five-mile in Central Park this morning. At the starting line, it was announced that at least 85 runners had arrived from Portugal this weekend to enjoy the always-festive race. They joined many other athletes of Portuguese descent in a joyous display of national pride.
Today's Portugal Day five-mile race in Central Park marked the beginning of summer racing and marathon training seasons--and it took place on Father's Day. More than 5,000 runners took part in the festive race, and their friends and families joined them afterward for kids' races and a post-race celebration.
