Beginning at 7:00 a.m. EST on February 10, My NYRR will be offline for system upgrades for approximately 90 minutes.
Runners of all ages—from 12 to 85—ran the Poland Spring Marathon Kickoff together today in Central Park. There were also many nationalities and many superheroes represented, as runners from New York City and around the world celebrated Marathon Week and Halloween! Superwoman, the Wolfman, and Tinker Bell joined winged bumblebees, Mardi Gras maidens, and an assortment of breakfast-food items to run with the usual singlet- and tights-clad runners. It was a unique version of the Halloween parade that moved faster than any other parade in NYC!
“We’ve got the athletes, we’ve got the families, and we’ve got the costumes,” exclaimed NYRR president and CEO Mary Wittenberg. “And there’s so much energy in the air!”
Electricity filled the air as ING New York City Marathon week officially began with the Poland Spring Marathon Kickoff this morning. More than 5,400 finishers enjoyed crisp 48-degree weather on this gorgeous fall morning. Participants of all ages and abilities ran five miles in Central Park and crossed the exact same finish line that marathoners will cross just one week from today.
“This is the greatest finish line in all of running,” NYRR president and CEO Mary Wittenberg told the runners, psyching them up for today’s event and the five-borough race on November 3. “We’re sharing today, and this week, and every day in running with our incredible athletes—from New York City, from around the nation and the world—coming here to run through our streets and communities in New York City.”
