Running teams from all over the NYC area came out to battle for NYRR's top prize, the Team Points Trophy. Proudly showing their true colors, men and women from dozens of running clubs battled humidity and hills in this morning's Team Championships.
The West Side Runners have won every team points race so far this season, but it was the lingering sting of defeat that motivated them to continue their streak at Saturday's Team Championships. WSX avenged their loss to the New York Athletic Club in last year's Team Championships, as Mikael Tesfaye, 25, broke the tape first in 24:30. Matt Forys, 26, and Gian-Paul Caccia, 26, took second and fifth, respectively, for NYAC, but WSX proved too strong: All of their top four finishers completed the five-mile circuit of Central Park in under 25 minutes.
