Application for the 2013 NYC Marathon closes in 3 DAYS. Even if you have Guaranteed Entry, you must apply now.
Saturday, January 7, was a perfect day to run a 10K in Central Park—sunny, calm, and a balmy 48 degrees. “Great weather today!” said Melanie Cooper Leary, 44, of Manhattan, just moments after finishing in 54:41. “I'm so glad to be out here—it’s a great day for a run around the park!” Others shared fond memories of the race’s namesake, Joe Kleinerman, a founding member of NYRR (and a longtime employee) who passed away in 2003 at age 91. “Back in the 70s, I remember Joe would type in the race results—usually by himself,” said Bill Staab of the West Side Runners.
NYRR's first 10K of 2012 attracted many runners intent on keeping New Year's resolutions. Some took advantage of the cool, sunny weather to post fast times, while others were excited to run the first of nine races they'll compete in this year en route to qualifying for the ING New York City Marathon 2013.
