Michael Arnstein of the Van Cortlandt Track Club used every ounce of home-field advantage in his victory at the Pete McArdle Cross Country Classic. Running over the park's rolling hills, he won in 54:09, clearly relishing the moment. In the women's race, NYAC triathlete Laurel Wassner broke the tape in 1:02:44. A frequent podium finisher in the Nautica NYC Triathlon, she enjoyed a rare chance to pack light for a race.
The late, great American distance runner Pete McArdle would have been pleased.
