In order to focus its full efforts on Sunday’s ING New York City Marathon and to keep Central Park as clear as possible for cleanup efforts before the race, New York Road Runners has announced the cancellation of Friday night’s Opening Ceremony and Parade of Nations and Saturday’s NYRR Dash to the Finish Line 5K.

“Mayor Bloomberg has said that the marathon will go on, and New York Road Runners and all of its resources are here to support the city and put on a special running of the 43rd ING New York City Marathon,” said Richard Finn, NYRR spokesperson. “Our focus right now needs to be directed entirely toward Sunday’s race.”

More information, as it becomes available, will be posted at NYRR.org.

“Our races are to our sport what Wimbledon and the Australian, U.S., and French Opens are to tennis, and what the Masters, U.S., and British Opens and PGA Championship are to golf. Each race has the history, the tradition, the honor roll of legendary champions, and a special place in the eyes of all to make them stand apart from the other events.” Mary Wittenberg
