On Sunday, October 21, Meb Keflezighi celebrated 25 years of living in the United States. Along with a touching tribute to his parents for their courage in pursuing a better life for their children and their perseverance in making sure that all 11 kids made the most of their opportunities, Meb on his blog lists 25 of his favorite moments. Not surprisingly, the ING New York City Marathon, at which he made his marathon debut and which he won in 2009, figures in.

The photos of Meb’s family, dating back to his childhood, are alone worth a look.

“Our races are to our sport what Wimbledon and the Australian, U.S., and French Opens are to tennis, and what the Masters, U.S., and British Opens and PGA Championship are to golf. Each race has the history, the tradition, the honor roll of legendary champions, and a special place in the eyes of all to make them stand apart from the other events.” Mary Wittenberg
