The Journey Begins!

January 25, 2014 by Coach Gail

And we’re off!

Welcome to our TFK NYC Half team. Today we ran 6-8 miles in freezing cold Central Park. But the enthusiasm and camaraderie of the group warmed us to our soles. So many runners said if it weren’t for the team, they’d be back in bed, toasty and warm, and maybe feeling a little guilty.

I had so much fun meeting some of our new TFKers, like Sebastian from Australia who met two other Aussie TFK teammates – now that’s a small world!  And Nate from Nebraska who is running his first half. He does voiceovers for Kindle so you may be familiar with his voice. Jessica Damouni was inspired to run by her mom who has completed 10 marathons. Jessica joined TFK for the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon and will run it with her mom.

I always knew our TFK members were a special group but this year’s NYC Half Marathon team is shaping up to be one of our best. I love your commitment to your training in this polar vortex weather system. I love your commitment to fundraising for our kids – who you will get to meet – and I love that you will experience a fantastic day on March 16 as you get to check running a half marathon – and for a great cause - from your bucket list.

So here’s to seven more weeks of fun as we turn you into Half Marathoners and all the bragging rights that come with it. And that includes transforming a child’s life through running.

“Our races are to our sport what Wimbledon and the Australian, U.S., and French Opens are to tennis, and what the Masters, U.S., and British Opens and PGA Championship are to golf. Each race has the history, the tradition, the honor roll of legendary champions, and a special place in the eyes of all to make them stand apart from the other events.” Mary Wittenberg
