Team for Kids is composed of adults from around the world who are committed to running, and to improving the lives of children. These runners add meaning to their miles by raising funds for NYRR youth services as they train for major endurance events.
All funds raised through Team for Kids benefit New York Road Runners youth services, which represent a national and international effort to transform the lives of tens of thousands of children, many of whom have no access to the regular physical activity they need to live healthy, productive lives.
The primary NYRR youth services — Young Runners and Mighty Milers — are running-based programs that promote children’s physical fitness, character development, personal achievement, and teamwork in underserved communities in New York City, throughout the United States, and in Africa. Funds raised by Team for Kids members help provide:
Team for Kids was established in 2002 as NYRR recognized the need to help city kids become more physically active. The goal of all our youth programs is to equip children with the tools they need to become physically fit for life, in programs that focus on goal-setting skills, character-enrichment, and nutrition education.
Each year, more than 2,800 Team for Kids runners log miles in bright green jerseys at a variety of New York City events including the TCS New York City Marathon, the NYC Half, the Empire State Building Run-Up, and the NYRR Brooklyn Half-Marathon. Team for Kids runners can also be found at the starting line of the BMW Berlin Marathon and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Supported by a team of elite coaches, Team for Kids alumni mentors, and friendly Team for Kids staff members, these generous athletes enjoy special race-day perks and personalized training plans. Team for Kids has multiple rewards. There’s the pleasure of raising funds for a truly worthy cause. There is the unique camaraderie, on and off the course, which comes from having trained together for several months. And finally, there is the amazing feeling of being in a long race and running past cheering stations full of enthusiastic kids who know you are running for them.
