At Saturday’s TFK long run practice, I had the pleasure of running with TFK member Nicole McNamara and her husband Hayden, expats from Australia. Hayden ran the NYC Marathon with TFK last November and now it is Nicole’s turn to run the NYC Half. They are the perfect team within a team, giving each other the support and encouragement needed to train for distance events while working and raising three children ages 10,7, and 5. Hayden is COO of ANZ Bank and Nicole is CEO of their household. They have been living in Manhattan for three years and think there is no better place to run than in Central Park. They work as a team to make sure Nicole gets in her training, switching off watching the kids, doing chores, and being cheerleaders for each other and for Team for Kids. Hayden is reaching out to runners at ANZ to join the cause.
Says Hayden of his TFK experience: “The idea of helping children get access to fitness programs to lead a healthier life really resonated with me given we have three kids of our own. After participating in the 2013 New York City Marathon program with TFK, I was very keen to ensure Nic got to enjoy the same experience for her first half. I love the attitude of the team and of the coaches. My experience in the marathon would not have been nearly as positive had it not been for TFK!”
Thank you Nic and Hayden for joining TFK and for all your support.
“Our races are to our sport what Wimbledon and the Australian, U.S., and French Opens are to tennis, and what the Masters, U.S., and British Opens and PGA Championship are to golf. Each race has the history, the tradition, the honor roll of legendary champions, and a special place in the eyes of all to make them stand apart from the other events.” Mary Wittenberg
