Social Media Manager

We are increasing our investment and focus on Social Marketing as a key business driver. We are seeking a highly energetic and motivated social marketing leader to take our Social Marketing practice to the next level.

Join us and lead our Word of Mouth/Social Team, chartered to implement high-level Social Marketing programs and drive significant growth in NYRR’s membership, race property demand, and community activation. This role will own all relevant social media platforms with a focus on driving community advocacy to generate brand growth and positive sentiment for the organization, as well as being tasked with creating new, innovative and talk-worthy content to drive awareness and engagement. As social media manager, you will be the “brand voice” of NYRR in the social world and as such will be accountable for communicating and engaging with our community participants in a manner that advances our brand objectives, embodies our core values and maintains our ethical standards. A passion for data driven decision-making, innovation, and for developing strong and collaborative working relationships across the organization will distinguish the winning candidate for this role. Our Social Media Manager will be focused on generating measureable outcomes that advance NYRR’s strategic imperatives and growth.

Responsibilities: 
  • Develop and implement integrated social media strategy to achieve stakeholder goals including: traffic generation, fan base growth, community activation, positive sentiment, sponsor exposure, etc.
  • Coordinate with the marketing, customer service, and media teams to lead execution of integrated social media campaigns
  • Serve as social media editor-in-chief and social media  “brand voice”–set the style guidelines in line with industry best practices for social media and share those guidelines with all contributors retaining final sign-off/approval of all posts
  • Develop social media policies, best practices, and contributor training programs to ensure NYRR meets or exceeds industry best practices and advances its brand goals
  • Develop programs for active listening and social intelligence gathering to identify and manage key influentials, uncover new insights to inform campaigns and concepts, help shape the conversation, and otherwise drive value across multiple use-cases across the organization
  • Organize and implement an effective social media function [structure, resources, plans and processes] to ensure high-performance outcomes from day-to-day communications and campaigns/promotions in support of marketing & brand initiatives
  • Engage through operational programming including:
    • Development: production and creative, content development, search engine optimization (SEO), social media optimization, social content production, mobile and traditional website, blog, and application development
    • Execution: campaign management, media planning and media buying, community management, content dissemination and amplification, search engine marketing (SEM) or paid search, earned outreach and engagement, influencer management, crisis management
  • Develop integrated Social media KPI’s and measurement methodologies tied to desired business outcomes, which allow routine analysis and optimization of social media strategies
  • Develop and manage relationships with key bloggers in the running, sports and health & fitness sectors to increase NYRR’s influence and support
  • Recommend new social media tools, sites, and applications as part of the social media mix

Requirements: 
  • In-depth understanding of social media platforms, their participants and their community dynamics [i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Pinterest, Diggit, etc.) and how they can be used on a standalone or integrated basis in different campaign scenarios.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in online marketing with at least 2-3 years deeply immersed in social media strategy & execution
  • Sport marketing or running industry interest/experience is a plus
  • Exceptional project & time management skills
  • Super-strong communication, writing, and editing skills
  • Excellent strategic planning, analytic, and research skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement social strategies that consistently exceed planned objectives
  • Knowledge and understanding of technology, information architecture, new consumer trends, and the latest in social media innovation
  • Experience managing agency relationships a plus
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Develop business cases, marketing plans and proposals for implementing social media solutions
  • Must be a passionate and avid social media enthusiast
  • Ability to generate ideas and work with minimal guidance
  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate combination of education and experience
