Rewards Program Coordinator, Youth Programs

Though best known for producing road races, NYRR is also the largest non-profit provider of youth fitness programming in New York City and a growing leader nationally.  Working towards the vision of “making running a part of every child’s school day,” the Youth and Community Services (YCS) Department develops, distributes, administers, and supports an evolving portfolio of youth running programs and resources used by schools and community centers throughout New York City and nationwide.  Collectively, our “train and support the trainer” model will enable us to serve more than 150,000 youth in approximately 1,000 schools this year, bringing the benefits of running and the culture of physical activity to sites, predominantly in low-income communities, in all 50 states.  In addition, YCS supports health fairs and related activities which focus on adult and senior wellness in communities citywide, and leads senior walks in target NYC neighborhoods.

Reporting directly to the Program Manager, Youth Programs, this position is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Mighty Milers and Young Runners Rewards Programs, a newly created initiative designed to motivate and reward sites.

  • Monitor and track all Mighty Milers and Young Runners sites’ progress in the rewards program in two platforms: Zoho and STRIDES
  • Promote and track sites’ progress for two special incentive-based promotions in the fall (Roster Rally) and spring (Miles for Books)
  • Inform all sites of their rewards’ status at monthly for Mighty Milers and every other month for Young Runners
  • Respond to all inquiries that pertain to the Rewards Program
  • Coordinate reward redemption and dissemination to sites
  • Curate site success stories and photos and work with BMC to share online and in other publications
  • Collaborate with BMC and various YCS team members on regular program communications and the creation of promotional materials to encourage sites to earn rewards
  • Work with the Program Supervisors and Program Manager to coordinate site visits and other special requests coming from various teams (e.g., Public Relations, Team for Kids, Development, etc.) as they pertain to Mighty Milers and Young Runners
  • Continue to develop program to best meet YCS goals and constituent needs
  • Represent NYRR in school, community and professional meetings and events as appropriate
  • Work Youth Program and major NYRR events throughout the year

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong organizational, analytical and administrative skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • High tolerance for ambiguity - this is a newly created position associated within a new initiative and will require flexibility, initiative, and patience
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and work under tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of NYC Department of Education public school system
  • Team focus and the ability to relate to and work with diverse populations
  • Heart, humor and a commitment to our youth services mission
  • Experience in running at any level, including recreational, is preferred.


  • Minimum of two years experience in program administration


  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in field related to provision of social services or sports management

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel throughout the 5 boroughs
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Work several weekend days a year at major NYRR and YCS events
