Business Development and Strategic Partnerships Intern
Our Business Development and Strategic Partnerships department is responsible for generating and garnering corporate revenue, value and promotion for NYRR in exchange for benefits to partners. The department seeks to match the needs of NYRR with the partner’s objectives. The intern will assist with the partnership component of NYRR weekly race events and the TCS New York City Marathon. The intern’s responsibilities include creating internal and external meeting agendas, preparing event recaps, scheduling communication needs, collaborating with Brand Marketing & Communications on creative/promotional elements and assisting with Marathon-related projects.
Development and Philanthropy Intern
The Development & Philanthropy team seeks an energetic intern to work on two major initiatives leading up to the TCS New York City Marathon: Team for Kids (TFK) and the Charity Partner Program. Team for Kids is a group of runners who raise funds to support NYRR Youth and Community Services while training for major endurance events including the TCS New York City Marathon. The intern will help ensure those runners have an amazing marathon experience by attending TFK training sessions (running with the team is optional but encouraged), providing customer service and administrative support in the office, and working at the Team for Kids VIP tent at the TCS New York City Marathon. Other responsibilities will include processing Team for Kids donations, working on logistics for marathon day and surrounding events, brainstorming marketing ideas for 2015 event recruitment, and supporting the Team for Kids and Charity Programs staff with various projects. The D&P intern will get hands-on experience in fundraising and philanthropy in a fun, fast-paced environment.
Human Resources Intern
This opportunity is ideal for college students who are looking for experience in the HR field. This internship will give you a chance to obtain office and HR Generalist support experience to further advance your career. This is an amazing opportunity for someone who is eager to learn and make this a stepping stone for a career in Human Resources. Some responsibilities include: assist with new hire and benefits orientations, assist with recruiting and staffing, maintain I-9, employee, benefits, and termination files, prepare new hire and benefits packets, perform miscellaneous office duties (answering phones, coordinating meetings, file cleanup, etc.), abide by all NYRR policies and procedures, project: Review and update current job descriptions, assist with streamlining HR processes (i.e.: recruitment process, termination process), assist with staff training, and assist with special projects as needed. Requirements: must be enrolled as a Junior/Senior college student currently pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development or related field, ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of the job, excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects at once, and proficient Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.)
Media and Public Relations
The Media and Public Relations department crafts and executes the organization’s media and public relations strategies and manages all PR initiatives on behalf of NYRR. The team works to gain visibility and appreciation for NYRR’s brand image, flagship races, community events, youth programs, and instructional and training programs, all with the aim of helping and inspiring people through running. We are seeking an intern who is self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Intern duties will include: helping draft media materials, including press releases, media alerts, fact sheets, etc.; updating media lists; monitoring NYRR’s Newsroom, helping to manage daily content updates; contributing to posting on the media Twitter handle, @nyrrnews; assisting with press operations for various NYRR events, including on-site coverage.
How would you like to learn about how a sports merchandising department works? How to design, manufacture and sell TCS NYC Marathon and NYRR Branded Products. You will learn how we create a collection of products with manufacturers for the key retail business components to an event. You: highly organized, detail oriented, ability to multi-task, strong PowerPoint, word, excel skills. Ability to work with all kinds of people internally and externally. Willingness to do all kinds of tasks and learn. Preferred candidates: studying or recently graduated with Merchandising or Sports Marketing degrees. Must be flexible to work weekends and evenings the week of the Marathon. Comfortable moving boxes and assisting in setting up retail displays.
Runner Products / Services Intern
Our Runner Products and Services department seeks a motivated, enthusiastic, and organized individual to support NYRRs training and education running efforts. The position will allow for a unique opportunity to help guide and support runners from all over the world throughout their journey to complete the TCS New York City Marathon and many other races. Responsibilities include: provide customer service for TCS New York City Marathon Training Online Training Program, support e-coaching efforts, and assist with analytics on training program data. Requirements: candidates should be organized team players with a personable manner, sense of humor, excellent customer service and problem-solving skills, and should have the ability to work with a diverse group of staff and participants. Proficient in Microsoft business applications. Experience working at distance running camps or clinics. College athlete who competes (or competed) in cross-country and track and field (Division I, II, or III) and desire to explore coaching as a career is a plus.
