Director of Partnerships

This position is responsible for managing and driving NYRR’s day-to-day sponsorship business and overseeing the entire partnership management team. This position ensures liaison between New York Road Runners (NYRR) sponsorship clients and NYRR’s internal teams - Brand Management, Event Production and Development, IT, Finance and Media Relations - to develop innovative, strategic, well executed partnerships for NYRR.

This position requires strong leadership ability internally with direct reports, colleagues and externally with partners and agencies. The Director will have proven management experience including the employee development. Candidates will demonstrate the ability to strategically evaluate partnerships and work in conjunction with the NYRR’s business development team to grow relationships in ways that are mutually beneficial to NYRR and its partners. 
This is a highly visible, leadership position within the organization which requires multi-tasking, good and decisive judgment, patience, a high level of professionalism and collaboration. Key responsibilities are built upon the intersection of client strategy, NYRR brand strategy and top notch client service in a high paced, fluid environment. 

  • Managing entire partnership business which includes overseeing 25 corporate partners affiliated with NYRR’s major events - the TCS New York City Marathon, 5 Borough Series, Heritage Events - and 20 community partners who sponsor NYRR road races. The position will manage the ten-person account team that fulfills the contractual benefits provided by NYRR to the partner as well as additional needs and requests from the partner.
  • Analyzing partnership relationships, driving the renewal process in tow with the Director of Business Development, and developing new opportunities for existing partners
  • Managing financial aspects of partner relationships, including: assisting Department Head with budgeting process, tracking sponsorship payments and conducting financial analysis of current corporate and community partnerships
  • Serving as a role model within the group and organization, providing leadership and creative problem solving
  • Managing major initiatives, including setting team objectives, running meetings, determining deadlines, managing P&Ls and measuring partner success
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in sponsorship or client service management
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience successfully managing multiple direct reports
  • Marketing, sponsorship, financial analysis and sales experience preferred
  • Collaborative and solutions-oriented
  • Effectively manage multiple projects
  • Ability to think strategically across multiple relationships and balance organization with partner objectives
  • Work well under pressure
  • Strong oral and written communicate skills
  • Strong financial analysis and reporting skills
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making and interpersonal skills
  • Availability to work weekends and extended hours as needed
